Voice lessons
Singing is a sacred activity and one of the primal expressions of our creativity. It is intensely joyful and transforming, and an expression that is available to everyone! It is my great pleasure to work with people and explore their potential through song.
My background as a classical singer gives me a profound understanding of the voice and the breath, and my Alexander Technique training provides me with the knowledge of alignment of the whole instrument.
Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a body - mind alignment work for enhancing posture and relieving pain and tension. Since it teaches ease and balance in movement it is used by yoga practitioners and musicians, as well as helping people with conditions like: back problems, sleep disorders, TMJ or balance disorders.
The session also includes therapeutic work on the massage table which provides deep relaxation. It is profoundly healing and leaves people commonly feeling rejuvenated and clear in body and mind.
Both Voice Lessons and Alexander Technique are $80 for a 55 minutes session.
Meditative singing groups
How does spirit communicate? Through song!
In the call and response style, the group will sing for one hour following my musical lead into improvisation and harmonizing. A very inspiring and rejuvenating experience, which leaves you bathed in sound.
Workshops for sound and movement
I have always delighted in moving to my singing, and find it frees the voice as well as the body. Workshops are a way of letting the soul dance through gentle movements and exploration of the voice. The length and duration of a workshop varies and can be adjusted to your personal needs.
Kate Buckley, writer and presenter, sais about her sessions with Annette:
“In just a few sessions with Annette Cantor, I understood the ‘artistic breath’ and how to use it in a presentation. Whether it be a book reading, singing, acting, athletics … any creative, physical expression can be enhanced by an understanding of the breath. Annette showed me how to focus on the sounds, not the words—a new and very effective way to connect with listeners at readings, talks and in classroom workshops.
Backache and stiff neck from sitting too long at my computer was relieved by Annette’s deft use of the Alexander Technique. With a few slight movements she showed me how achieve erect posture, yet still feel completely at ease. This continues to help me, whether I am standing in front of a classroom or sitting at my computer, doing a reading or a book signing.
I highly recommend “Voice Lessons” with Annette Cantor. No matter the area of physical expression you seek, Annette can help you to reach your full potential!
Workshop Comments
"You have opened some doors of creativity in the body and connections with heart and "hare" as the seat of creating and the origin of sound. Now I sing from an extremely relaxed space."
"I appreciated the love, warmth and deep caring I received in the workshop, your gentleness in leading the group so that we could all relax and feel safe, the new possibilities that opened up for me."
"Thank you for the opportunity to have the musical, calming support which is so important for healing. Also for the physical release of aching muscles and the "internal" permission for me to see how I can release them myself. The mind was very much at peace, the head felt clearer and the room brighter when the experience ended."
"I am so glad and grateful you asked us to rest in the safety of forgiveness. I feel that the stillness of today is most healing. And the pure tones of your voice are so resonant and wonderful."
"The head has not felt so clear all winter."
"It gave me the time to think deeply into myself. Showed me how toning can really get into the core. Another help toward recovery."
"It reminded me about the weight of resistance to "what is" and the simple ability to forgive in the moment. And to feel the freedom and space within myself, that follows."
"A wonderful time of spaciousness for all that hurts inside physically, mentally and emotionally."
